Fight Weekend Preview
Yet another relatively quiet weekend of boxing is on tap for fight fans. However, there are two smaller prospect-heavy cards in the US on Friday and another in the UK on Saturday.
The action kicks off on Friday, August 18th, in Orlando, Florida, at the Caribe Royale and streaming live on DAZN. Undefeated Puerto Rican Prospect Nestor Bravo, 21-0 (15), battles Will Madera, 17-2-3 (10), in the evening's main event. Bravo is coming off of a no-contest at the same venue back in February with Jair Valtierra. Prior to that, Bravo Stopped Adrian Yung in his native Puerto Rico. Madera is a battle test veteran who last fought Brandun Lee and dropped him on his way to losing a competitive points decision. He has also been in contact with Felix Verdejo. An exciting undercard features two battles of unbeaten prospects. Cuban southpaw Damian Lescaille, 4-0 (3) takes on fellow Cuban Hugo Noriega in a 10-round junior middleweight affair. Also on the card is Elihiah Flores, 5-0 (2), who battles Elijah Williams, 6-0 (2) in a battle of New York natives named Elijah.
The action stays in the States and stays on DAZN as we get yet another week of the Overtime boxing series at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Money Powell IV, 13-1 (8), returns from his year and a half lay off to take on a massive challenge in undefeated prospect Shawn McCalman, 13-0 (7). McCalman is coming off a career-best win against Bo Gibbs in Mississippi on the Showtime undercard of Carlos Adames vs Julian Williams. Powell has won three fights in a row since his loss to Vaughn Alexander but has not fought since February 2022, when he stopped Fidel Monterroza Munoz in Atlanta, Georgia. The undercard features an interesting and compelling super bantamweight scrap as Javon Campbell, 12-1 (10), battles Lorenzo Parra, 22-1 (17), in a 10-round Super bantamweight affair. Also, on the card is. Undefeated fan favorite Kurt Scoby, 12-0 (10), is also on the card he takes on undefeated Spaniard Narciso Carmona 1-0-1 (6) in a battle of unbeaten 140-pounders.
The prospect-loaded cards move to the UK for the lone major boxing card of the weekend as Birmingham UK native and brother of former world champ Kal Yafai, Galal Yafai, 4-0 (3) takes on battle-tested Tommy Frank for the WBC international Flyweight strap. Yafai last fought on April 1, and in a major step-up fight, he absolutely shinned in taking apart Moises Calleros in just four rounds. Frank is coming off of 10th round TKO loss to Jay Harris in May. He has not won since December 2021, when he outpointed Charles Tondo. The undercard features bluechip welterweight prospect Cyrus Pattinson, 6-0 (4), as he comes off his thrilling win over Chris Jenkins to battle Conah Walker 11-2 (3). Jordan Flynn, 9-0 (1), and Kane Baker, 19-10-1 (1), met up in April, and Flynn escaped with a very disputed decision. The two will lock horns again and look to settle the score once and for all.
