Fighter of the Week (7/31-8/6): Jordan White

On what was a very quiet weekend of boxing outside of the misfit thing that took place in Dallas between an MMA guy and a Youtuber. There were two sensational performances on two different cards. One of which produces a sensational and shocking ending just moments after it began. Jordan "Shortdog" White, of Washington DC, has been telling the world about his power and that it has been hampered by injury. He certainly showed the world his power was real in scoring a sensational one-punch knockout of the year contender of unbeaten Eridson Garcia in the first round to move his record to 15-1 (11), extended his winning streak to 11 captured the most impressive win of his career, the NABF Super Featherweight title and our Fighter of the Week Award.

White walked into the ring at the Wind Creek Events Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, after being out of the ring for almost a year to the day. A fast start would be important to avoid any signs of ring rust and not fall behind in a fight that appeared to be 50/50 ish. After about a minute of feeling out and throwing jabs, "Shortdog" struck suddenly. A counter left hook put the undefeated Garcia flat on his back. The vicious knockdown immediately prompted the referee to call a hall to the contest at just 1:57 of the opening stanza. Giving White the sensational KO victory.

White put himself in an excellent position to challenge for a world title, particularly after winning the NABF title, which is affiliated with the WBC. The current WBC champion in that division is O'shaquie Foster, who also trains in Houston as does Garcia, and given that performance, it's not unreasonable to think White could step up and face off with Foster. If that's not in the cards, there are a lot of other step-up fights that can set White up for a world title fight. Names like Zelfa Barrett and Michael Magnesi would pose interesting matchups that would give White a different style to contest with and some international flavor on his resume. Thomas Mattice would be an intriguing contest, and Chris Colbert would make a really intriguing all east coast matchup. A win in any of those fights certainly put White in line for a World title fight.
