Fight Week Preview

Following up from last weeks fireworks the sweet science returns with two pretty solid cards in not so conventional locations.

It's Ring City USA, Fight Week — Amanda Serrano vs Daniela Bermúdez!

The action kickoffs on Thursday evening in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the proud fighting Island’s native hero Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano puts her WBC and WBO featherweight titles on the line as well as her pound-for-pound status against ‘La Bonita” Daniela Bermudez of Santa Fe, Argentina. Bermudez is a live underdog and has captured world titles at 115,118 and 122 and now looks to become a four-weight division world champion. Standing in her way is the legendary Serrano who has held nine major world titles in seven different weight classes. Serrano has been able to stay fairly active despite the pandemic having fought twice in 2020 going 2-0 with 2 TKOs. She last fought in December in the Dominican Republic where she destroyed Dahiana Santana in less than one round. In the co-main, Abimael Ortiz returns for the first time since his career-best performance in taking apart former world title challenger Chris Avalos back in November of 2019 in just his eighth pro fight. Ortiz puts his undefeated record on the line against Eduardo Baez who sports an 18-1-2 record and who’s sole defeat comes at the hands of Mauricio Lara back in 2017. A loss that isn’t nearly as bad in retrospect.

Dillian Whyte made incredible body transformation for two-fight Alexander Povetkin series after coming in heavy against Mariusz Wach

The big card of the weekend takes place in Gibraltar as Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte collide for the second time. The first fight ended in a shocking upset as Povetkin scored a brutal one-punch knockout in the fifth round. It was just the second career loss for Whyte who had not suffered a defeat since his entertaining scrap with Anthony Joshua all the way back in 2015. The WBC Interim World Heavyweight title will be on the line. A strap Povetkin picked up in the win over Whyte. Additionally the undercards is loaded with highly competitive fights as Ted Cheeseman battles the undefeated James Metcalf for the Vacant British154-pound belt. Cheeseman picked up a win in his last bout back in August of 2020 where he outboxed Sam Eggington over 12 rounds and picked up the unanimous decision. Metcalf has not fought in over a year, he last fought a tune-up fight against Jan Balog, prior to the fight Metcalf scored a career best win in destroying former world title challenger Jason Welborn back in June of 2019. Undefeated heavyweight blue chip prospect Fabio Wardley battles Texas tough man Eric Molina. Molina has twice challenged for a world title. He was stopped by Deontay Wilder in 2015 and was stopped by Anthony Joshua in 2016.
