The last year plus of boxing has been marked with an excellent trend of the best fighting the best. That trend continues this weekend as WBA 154-pound strap holder Erislandy Lara and IBF belt holder Jarrett Hurd lock up. Lara will look to turn around some of the recent misfortune that many of his fellow Cubans have suffered in recent memory such as Guillermo Rigondeaux, Rances Barthelemy, Luis Ortis and Yunier Dorticos. Lara is the master boxer, brilliant skills, and footwork and sneaky power in his left hand. Jarrett Swift Hurd, who is a monster of a 154 pounder will look to answer any questions about his lack of pure skill. Hurd is undefeated (21-0) with a seven-fight KO streak.
Lara starts early working the jab and circling Hurd. Racking up the first four rounds on the scorecards out jabbing Hurd and landing the occasional straight-left. To start the fifth Swift fully aware he is behind on points tries to pick up the aggression. As he attempts to pick up the pace Lara smothers him on the inside and avoids the bigger Hurd and stays on his back foot. The pace is really slowed by Lara’s holding. Lara is doing enough in landing the jab and tying up Hurd who is completely ineffective and frustrated by the highly skilled Cuban. While Lara is racking up the points and winning every round and nullifying the IBF champ. The Las Vegas crowd is none too happy and are booing the lack of action. Lara is not deterred from the booing and sticks to the game plan jabbing off the back foot and tying up Hurd on the inside. As the bell rings to end the 12th round. Hurd is clearly frustrated as he has been outclassed and the fans are equally upset with the non-action Lara takes a wide decision on the cards ranging from 117-111 to 1119-109.

Caleb Truax vs James DeGale II
International Boxing Federation World Super Middleweight Title
Truax upset DeGale by majority decision back on December 9th to lift the crown in a massive upset that no one gave him a chance to win. Degale is looked at as the more skilled fighter and is still a sizeable favorite in the rematch. DeGale has also vowed to retire if he is unsuccessful in his attempt to regain his strap. Truax has been unsuccessful in all of his prior step up fights before taking the decision over DeGale being stopped by Andre Dirrell and Danny Jacobs and having dropped a decision to Jermaine Taylor. The DeGale win was a massive upset and career changing win for Traux, can he capitalize on the momentum?
Knowing what to expect Degale uses his jab and footwork to avoid the occasional aggression of Traux. DeGale keeps his right jab pumping and winning rounds and building a lead on the scorecards. Traux is able to get on the inside and do some work on effective work there and he does win some rounds. However, he eats a lot of leather by the quicker, longer Degale. In the last few rounds, Degale stays on his back foot and begins to show the difference in class between him and Traux taking a wide but competitive decision with scored of 116-112 and 117-111 twice.
