The HBO Hype Job goes to the UK tonight as Gennady Golovkin put his middleweight title on the line against much smaller welterweight title holder, Kell Brook. Brook is amongst the very best at 147lbs who’s greatest win came over formally unbeaten upstart Shawn Porter who was coming off a devastation destruction of Paulie Malignaggi. Porter looked to be the head of the young talented welterweight prospect class, and Porter has proven to be an elite fighter, and Brook is a tremendously talented fighter with a great future, he is light years better than anyone GGG has stepped into the ring with. So what’s the problem? They aren’t even close to the same weight class. Just like with Canelo and Khan, once they step into the ring the size difference will be so obvious and Brook’s skill level will be nullified by the size difference. There’s a reason why this sport has weight classes and this thing where the A fighter, fights the B fighter from a much smaller weight class needs to stop, it’s not good for the sport or the smaller fighter. If weight classes’ don’t matter as GGG is suggesting by taking such a fight, why not fight Deontay Wilder next? No, seriously if GGG is serious that weight classes don’t matter why not fight Wilder, and become the heavyweight champion of the world. Well because GGG clearly isn’t a heavyweight, right, and Brook clearly isn’t a middleweight. So GGG should do something he has avoided since he burst into our lives 4 years ago, fight somebody good at his own weight class. But the plan is all to clear for the 34 year old hype job, beat up on small guys and tomato cans continue this absurd KO streak and have Lampley and Kellerman and crew pronounce you the greatest middleweight since Hagler. Hey, a few more fights after this he can say that he is too old and stepping away and Lampley will be in tears saying we are seeing one of the great middleweights of this or any era walk away. He has avoided everyone and is fighting little guy, for no apparent reason. Below is a list of guys at his or near his own weight class who GGG will not fight:
J Rock Williams
He has somehow amazingly avoided every single name on this list, simply incomprehensible, instead he has taken on Marco Antonio Rubio, Gabe Rosado and Osumanu Adama and Nobuhiro Ishida. Of course his best victory to date is his stoppage of David Lemieux who was of course destroyed by less than legendary Marco Antonio Rubio who was annihilated by Kofi Jantuah???? Who???? Exactly. A few things are certain, GGG will win, it won’t matter, Lampley will go nuts, GGG will most likely extend his KO streak and in the post-fight interview he will say “Well Max, Kell, he is good boy” Maybe for his next over-hyped trick, GGG should be to take on fellow pound 4 pounder Chocolatito Gonzalez, right cause weight classes don’t matter, and Jim Lampley will gush over GGG extending his KO streak over unbeaten Pound 4 pounder Gonzalez.
